Nothing you copy is ever gone

Hundreds of clippings, in order, with the app they came from. Paste the third-last thing with ⇧+⌘+v and two arrow keys, even when something else is on the clipboard now. The bezel stays up while you pick.

Find it in a keystroke

⇧+⌘+? searches the whole history. Every word, in any order, with a typo forgiven. Ignores case and accents, understands Arabic, Japanese and emoji, and finds what meant the same thing, with a model that ships inside Stashcut and never goes online.

Secrets never land in history

API keys, passwords, card and bank numbers are recognised the moment you copy them and kept out. You get told once, and can hand the secret to 1Password instead.

Bring your own brain

Search by meaning can run on the bundled local model. Answers and AI actions use the assistant endpoint you choose: Ollama, LM Studio or llama.cpp on your Mac, or a remote endpoint if you prefer. The settings tell you whether text stays local. Citations let you check the answer, not just trust it.

Your agent forgot what you pasted. Stashcut did not.

Stashcut ships a tiny read-only Model Context Protocol server. Claude Code, opencode, or anything that speaks MCP can search your history, fetch one clipping, or see the newest ones. Off by default. One button to set up.

Three tools, zero writes

search get recent. That is the whole surface. An agent cannot add to your history, delete from it, or paste. It runs as a child of the agent you started, so there is no port, no token, no daemon.

Set up without touching a config file

Press Configure opencode or Configure Claude. Stashcut shows the exact command, runs that tool's own CLI, checks for a duplicate first and verifies afterwards. It never opens or rewrites your configuration file.

Credential values stay out of agent replies

1Password items are reported only as a count, without their value, reference or title. Other clippings that look like card numbers, bank accounts, keys or bulk email lists keep their position and time, but their text is replaced by a notice saying what was withheld.

Asked before you asked

Does it need an internet connection?

History, bundled search by meaning, local secret detection and the agent server work offline. Activation, licence renewal, updates and optional model downloads use the internet. Ask and AI actions use your chosen model endpoint, which can run on this very Mac.

Which AI does it use?

For search, a small model that ships inside Stashcut, or e5-small, an optional download that reads many languages and code. For answers, yours: Ollama, LM Studio or llama.cpp. Stashcut keeps no key of its own and never routes your text through a server of ours.

Where is my history stored?

In macOS preferences under com.stashcut.app and in ~/Library/Application Support/Stashcut for images, backdrops and the search index. Delete the app and the folder, and it is gone.

Is the agent server safe to turn on?

It is off until you switch it on. It is read-only and runs as a child of the agent you started. 1Password items are counted, without their values, references or titles. Detected sensitive text is withheld with a notice; its position and time may still be returned. Detection is a safeguard, not a guarantee for every possible secret.

Is Stashcut open source?

Stashcut is built on Flycut and Jumpcut, both MIT licensed, and their notices ship in the app's Credits tab. The additions that make Stashcut what it is are proprietary. You are paying for those, and for the person keeping them working.

Can I use it on more than one Mac?

Yes. One licence covers up to three Macs you personally use. Replace one and the licence moves with you.

What about iCloud sync and an iPhone app?

Not yet. Sync will arrive as an opt-in, off by default, once the plumbing meets the same standard as everything else here. An iOS companion is on the list after that.

Refunds?

Fourteen days, no questions. If Stashcut does not earn its place in your menu bar, write and get your purchase refunded.
